The Value of Internships

An internship is a practical learning experience in which you will apply classroom knowledge, skills, and training in a professional setting. An internship is helpful in focusing or confirming your career goals, building a professional network and developing your professional skills.

When looking for internship opportunities, check out your own college or university’s resources first; the help you find will be more specific to your needs and location. The university where I teach has an Internship Coordinator in Career Services, as well as internship coordinators in each school. So consider your resources:

  • Career Services; Internship Directors or Coordinator
  • Career Fairs – local and regional
  • Faculty
  • Advisors
  • Alumni
  • Students
  • Local businesses
  • Websites

You will see posts in this blog from professionals in the field of internships, faculty, staff, and students. We welcome your input! – please feel free to reply or post questions, information, websites, or ideas. Be sure to visit our website page for internships that will have more permanent postings of information and websites in the near future - Internships for International Students.
